Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia means breast enlargement in men. In recent years, with the increase of obesity rates and changing eating habits, we see more gynecomastia patients than ever.

The reason behind the gynecomastia can be both fat and breast tissue increase.  Different approaches are required for these two patient groups.

The most commonly used method to reduce the increase in fat in the male breast is liposuction. It is not possible to remove the enlarged breast tissue in this way. Tissue should be removed with crescent or round shaped incisions made under or around the nipple. With this method, it is possible to reduce the excess skin as well.

In many patients, it is necessary to combine both liposuction and open surgery methods to achieve ideal results. It may be necessary to perform breast reduction surgery with a female type inverted T-shaped scar for patients with severe sagging and large breasts, and those with excess skin on the breast who have undergone weight loss surgery.

We recommend that you wear a corset for 6 weeks after the operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The first day after gynecomastia surgery is the day when the pain is felt most intensely. In this process, strong painkillers are given to ensure the comfort of the patient. The pain gradually decreases and at the end of 1 week, most patients do not even need painkillers

We want  to stand up and walk a few hours after the end of the surgery. If your profession is not performed with intense physical labor, you can return to work within 7 days. After 4 weeks, you can do cardio-heavy sports such as walking and cycling, and after 6 weeks you can start lifting weights.

We recommend quitting smoking 4 weeks before surgery and not smoking for at least 4-8 weeks afterwards

Liposuction is an operation performed with a 1 cm scar from the armpit. It is considered a scarless surgery. In open gynecomastia surgery, the scar of the operation is hidden inside the nipple line and becomes almost unnoticable.

If you gain weight, there may be some increase in fat in the breast, but the removed breast tissue will not come back.
